I am a Writer
This is something that I've wanted to say for over 30 years and so now I am saying it out loud (or whatever it's called when you write it in a blog post!). I'm not yet a published author - but that bit will happen soon - so I can't say that yet, but I am a writer, so I'll stick to saying that for now (I've already said it twice in this post if you count the headline!). That doesn't mean that I don't have a massive case of imposter syndrome whenever I say that, of I course I do. I'm really saying it so often to convince myself as much as I am you. Yet I've been a writer for most of the last 20 years. I offer consultancy on marketing strategy, but my core marketing skillset is being a copywriter. Over the years I will have written hundreds and thousands of words for clients, from technical articles to tweets. What I want to do now is 'own' that writing more.
My plan is that for now the writing will compliment the day job as a marketing consultant and if I can make it work it will slowly take over. I have several ideas for novels that I want to write and publish and I have actually written the first of those. As I write this I should actually be editing a book for kids aged 8-12 that has themes of friendship, bullying, rugby, divorce and a magic portal. I'm hoping that it will be published in July or August. However, as well as writing novels, I will also write other people's stories - the story of their lives and what has made them who they are. I want to help people create a personalised, written legacy. This will be the 'business' part of my writing while I grow the income I generate from writing and selling my own books.
If you'd like to know more, then I have created a page you can look at: Patrick Smith Writing. Or you can sign up to my mailing list and I'll send you occasional emails about the book(s) I am working on: Join My Mailing List. Thank you. PS - I am a writer!
